Let’s start with “Petite”

In the last few weeks I have seen a couple of clients with the same little problem. They are “petite” and both complain that finding off-the-peg clothes that fit is a giant headache. Although a similar height they are different shapes; the only thing they had in common was getting short shrift from many retailers. Shops do try to accommodate different shapes and proportions but with margins being squeezed, the choices available in stores are shrinking.
So I had a little think and came up with a bijou list of labels.
If you are a “petite” (i.e.1.6M or 5FT 3IN and under) you could start by looking for French and Italian brands such as Agnes B, Tara Jarmon, Gerard Darel, Diesel and Prada. The British labels that cater to the smaller woman include Almost Famous and Sticky Fingers. You could also look at By Malene Birger and Stills, one Danish and the other a Dutch brand, and of course don’t forget Japanese brands such as Issey Miyake and Comme des Garcons.
As you see, it became quite a big list after all, so don’t despair: You may be small, but to these brands you are perfectly formed!
Talking of form, I will tackle body shapes in a future blog – how to identify your own shape and how to find the perfect match in the shops.
